DATE: Victorian, c.1900

A charming antique solitaire engagement ring dating from the turn of the 20th century. Classic in style, the half carat diamond rests in a simple six claw platinum basket, with plain 18 karat yellow gold band, the stone itself is full of character and life. It's an antique cushion cut, almost square in shape with curved corners with a very slight warmth when viewed in daylight. The irregular nature of the cut gives it the kind of personality so often lost in modern brilliant cuts.
