Belcher rings became popular in the mid-18th century, named after the original designer, Thomas Belcher. A belcher setting is very distinct in that the diamond or gemstone is held by prongs or claws carved into the shank itself.
This ring is a great example of the style, set with a central antique cushion cut diamond. But the most charming part of this ring is the inscription in the inner shank, dated "1936 EBK."
