The Rolex Milgauss was created when the scientists of the CERN nuclear research facility, just outside of Geneva Switzerland, reached out to Rolex to manufacture a watch that would withstand high magnetization. Scientists of this era performed their research in highly controlled nuclear facilities and were constantly in a highly magnetized environment, deeming most watches useless. The watch Rolex created for CERN can withstand 1000 gauss of magnetism, mille = 1000, hence the name Milgauss. This allowed the scientist of CERN and other scientists of the era to go about their daily professions and accurately time their experiments.

A simple watch aesthetically, with a brushed silver dial, stick markers, geometric hands, and a smooth outer bezel in a modest 38mm case, the Milgauss has elements of charm with red text and a red-tipped sweep second hand.
